The Ashanti Region is set to welcome a new radio station.

Asaase Radio 98.5 will soon start test transmission ahead of nornal programming, enewsgh.com can confirm.

The Kumasi addition to Asaase Broadcasting Company (ABC) Radio Ltd’s portfolio sits with its plans of having a competitive commercial presence nationwide.

The Asaase Radio brand name will be maintained in all the regions they intend to operate in, a model that is also being used by some other media groups.

Enewsgh.com is reliably informed that work is progressing at its studios and offices in Kumasi to pave way for the official take off.

The Asaase Radio project is exciting; station executives speak proudly about the prospects. Founded on a unique Pan African philosophy with a Ghanaian identity, it went live in Accra on June 14.

ABC Radio Ltd. has some of the finest brains on its board including Gabby Otchere-Darko, board chairman, Mr Joseph Ofori-Atta of Woolworths fame, Ms Nana Adjoa Hackman, managing partner of Africa Legal Associates, Mr Ebow Brew-Hammond and Mr Kojo Opoku Agyeman, who also doubles as the company’s chief executive officer.

There is also Mr Reginald Daniel Laryea of MMRS, journalist Elizabeth Akua Ohene and Isaac Emmil Osei-Bonsu, a lawyer.

The Ashanti Region currently has 83 licensed radio stations.
