The release of visuals for Beyonce’s “Already” featuring Shatta Wale and Major Lazer has been met with resounding reception, with the Ghanaian singer once again drawing key focus to the immense value of talent from here.
Since it was released three days ago, Shatta Wale has received a deluge of congratulatory messages from notable personalities. The latest has come from Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, who took to Twitter to commend the dancehall firebrand.
“Shatta Wale, you do all,” posted Nana Addo August 2, with whom the singer enjoys a healthy social media relationship accentuated by the exchange of pidgin. In 2017, on Shatta Wale’s birthday, a similar exchange ensued between them, resulting in the singer being invited to the seat of government. “Happy birthday Shatta Wale. You for come visit me for Flagstaff House o!” read the president’s tweet.
“Already” preaches pride in one’s identity as a black person, a virtue that is enacted boldly and colourfully in the clip. Aesthetically, the video crisscrosses the Atlantic, with culture from Africa and the United States heavily represented via dance, fashion, and the music itself.
