Okyeame Kwame has released the video attendant to “Kpa,” a single off his latest album, Made in Ghana.
The impressive highlife record is the fourth single off the CD, which has been hailed by industry watchers as a consummate homage to the rich culture of the country and an overall call for nationalism. It features Naomi & Oko of the legendary Wulomei band, with production coming by way of the widely respected sound man, Dan Grahl.
Directed by Oskhari, the video, full of colour and hilarity, was shot in Jamestown and other principal streets of Accra. It also stars popular showbiz faces including actor Toosweet Annan.
Thematically, the song aims at lifting one’s spirits during difficult times. The chorus translates from Ga as “Stop consuming sorrow and eat some kenkey.”
The Made in Ghana album, which harnesses sounds from all parts of the country, features guest appearances from KiDi, Wutah Afriyie, Wiyaala, King Ralph, Abiana, and Atongo Zimba. In May 2020, it was named Album of the Year at the third annual 3Music Awards.
Previous singles off Made in Ghana include the title track featuring KiDi, “Bra,” and “Ino Be My Matter.”
In Ghana, Okyeame Kwame sits among an elite group of rappers credited with the popularisation of the hiplife genre. Since his entry into Ghana’s mainstream in the 90s as one hald of the Akyeame duo, the “Woso” star has maintained a permanent presence on the music scene, racking up a deluge of top-charting hits and laurels.
