Efya and Tiwa Savage, widely considered West African Afrobeats divas, have paired up for the former’s new single, “The One.”
The record, premiered on the morning of June 5, is the latest in a continual stream of collaborations between Ghanaian and Nigerian heavyweights.
Set in funky, nostalgic R&B, the record, an ode to love, also leaks Caribbean feels. It was produced by respected Afropop architect, BlaQ Jerzee.
Though collaborations with Sarkodie and recently, Akan have ensured that her fans still have music consisting of her vocal talent, “The One” arrives as Efya’s first official single in a while. It is presumably taken off a forthcoming new album.
33, Efya have been a leading songstress in Ghana since 2008, when she commenced professional practice. Till date, she remains one of her generation’s most decorated chanteuses. So far, she has three bodies of work: Unveiled (2009) (with Irene Logan), TINT (2013), and Janesis (2015).
On her part, Tiwa Savage is likely the continents leading lady in pop. Her last big collaboration with a Ghanaian colleague was eight months ago, with Becca, on “Yes I Do.”
