Toyboi, the explosive young rapper who has been widely named the next big thing, has been named opening act for the Ghana stop of UK star, Stormzy’s Heavy is the Head world tour.
The concert is slated for October 9, 2020.
Stormzy, whose 2019 feats include headlining Glastenbury, made the announcement on Twitter. Unsurprisingly, the Osu native, signed to Supernova Records, and whose big break arrived via his appearance on the Sarkodie-curated 2018 track, Bibii Ba, was both gobsmacked and appreciative, replying with an emoji-filled message of gratitude. “You just [sic] made my day, Big Mike. I appreciate this a lot,” he replied.
Toyboi’s ascent has been impressive to watch. Years ago, he began courting mild notice via his viral Bar4Bar freestyle video series, dropping striking bars in three different languages: English, Twi and Ga. He’s also author of multiple singles including Love Me (produced by Zodiac), and Adoley (produced by Possigee).
Heavy is the Head arrives as (Stormzy, a Ghana native himself)’s sophomore album and is due December 13, two years after his widely successful debut, Gang Signs & Prayer. Heavy is the Head has been supported with the singles “Vossi Bop”, “Crown”, “Wiley Flow” and “Own It”.
