On Friday the 20th of December 2019, AnimaxFYB Studios outdoors their latest project, TUTU -An Untold Story of a Kingdom.

The event, scheduled for 8 pm at Alliance Francaise will have as its centrepiece, a “proof of concept” showing.

A panel discussion with animators of the piece and the head writer of the series, Yaw Firempong Boakye, an artiste performance, as well as a food and networking session have also been slated for the night.

The Studio is an animation, design and visual effects studio at East Legon, Accra. Primarily motivated by a vision to document, preserve and share authentic African stories through animation, the company’s most notable historical animation movie remains Agorkorli, which relates the migration story of the Ewe people in south-eastern Ghana. It was released in 2015 to critical acclaim.

TUTU tells the story of King Osei Tutu and the formation of the 17th
century Ashanti Kingdom, and makes for a compelling plot: Osei Tutu, an heir to the stool of Kwaaman has been sent to Denkyira to serve. His actions in the royal court cause his path to cross with Okomfo Anokye, a young and exuberant traditional priest, finds favor in the eyes of the Denkyira royal family. This infuriates the local traditional chiefs. They get revenge by
murdering his mother. Devastated, Okomfo Anokye sets out to create an alliance strong enough to overthrow the ruling Denkyira kingdom. It is here that he teams up with Osei Tutu. Tutu’s thoughtful, pragmatic nature balances out Anokye’s ambition and exuberance, and Prince and magician embark on an epic adventure. They unite weak, splintered clans,
giving them a new identity and a common goal to pursue. This new alliance fight for their independence from the powerful Denkyira kingdom. They
win, establishing a powerful empire that has existed since the 17th century.

The purpose of the “proof of concept” video, per organisers, is to provide an example of the writing, directing and cinematography that should be expected for the full-length series. “Our goal is both to attract potential investors to fund the project and create a full animated series for all major digital streaming platforms and then to stimulate our audience, proofing the film’s viability on the big screen,” they add.
