On Wednesday, October 2, 2019, the 2nd edition of ‘Ghana Reads!’ will be held to commemorate the 2019 International Reading Day.
The event, a Festival of Reading, is organised by Ghana Reads Initiative and e-Ananse Libraries and is set to take place at the Accra City Hall (within the New AMA Complex) near Kinbu SHS from
Ghana Reads! is a community based reading campaign geared at encouraging Ghanaians, especially children & youth, to love reading fiction literature; promoting the reading of Ghanaian fiction literature; bridging the gap between readers and authors/publishers and teaching the skills & importance of reading. It is designed to involve every individual or institution in Ghana and beyond. By this, individuals and institutions are encouraged to be part of the project by purchasing selected Fiction Literature by a Ghanaian author for libraries in Chorkor, Jamestown, Osu, Kawukudi and Korle Gonno.
According to the organisers, the event would host renowned musicians, actors, political and societal leaders, sportsmen, journalists, radio/tv presenters including Hon. The 2019 edition of ‘Ghana Reads!’ is set to feature a conversation on how to make reading a cultural practice in Ghana, explore different reading forms such as Read Aloud, Dramatic Reading, Read & Play, Read & Colour, Voices & Acts, Read Chain among others. It would also host Books Exhibition and Sales, Reading clinics/workshops and Reading Competitions.
One interesting package this edition comes with is the unveiling of e-Ananse Library and an Amphi-Theatre at the new AMA Complex—Accra City Hall.
