Sarkodie, the prolific Ghanaian rapper who was recently crowned “Artist of the Decade” at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards, will release a six-track EP in June.
When it arrives, it will be the first time since 2017 that the Tema native would be issuing a body of work (his last project, an album titled “Highest,” was published in 2017).
Like “Highest,” the forthcoming record, per its title (ALPHA), looks to reecho Sarkodie’s stature at the very pinnacle of contemporary Ghanaian rap.
Among keenly anticipated songs on the project is Odo, a love number that guests the late Ebony Reigns. That particular number, produced by Nova, arrives after a year-long lag. He first teased the joint at a memorial concert held for the late chanteuse.
Rapper Joey B is the only other guest on the record–on a song titled “Legend.”
For production, Sarkodie (Michael Owusu Addo) turns to regular collaborator, Fortune Dane, ATown TSB, Nova, and Chronikz.
Sarkodie is Ghana’s most decorated rapper, his laurels (eighty-one out of 148 nominations) include a 2014 BET award, twenty-two VGMA trophies, sixteen 4syte Music Video Awards, two SoundCity Music Video Awards, an AFRIMA, and three Headies trophies.
He is the frontman of SarkCess Music (his independent imprint) and author of six albums.
