Author, engineer and business leader, Lucy Quist has added her voice to the general sentiment at this year’s Africa Women’s Sports Summit, which looks to drive a new narrative for the potential of the African woman practising a career in sports on the continent.

Special guest of honour at the conference, the former Airtel boss and Vice President of the Fifa Normalization Committee in Ghana lamented the unique stereotypes women face professionally–some enforced by the women themselves.

Quist questioned the social construct that has conditioned women into an inferiority complex and called for women to stand up and be counted, as “ability has no gender.”

“We don’t need permission to take our place,” said a passionate Quist who was commenting on “Taking Your Place,” the theme under which the conference is being held this year.

“It’s wonderful being a woman, but don’t let that be the singular filter through which you’re judged and assessed through your life,” she added.

Other speakers at the event are summit host, Juliet Bawuah, SuperSport and Premier League TV’s Carol Tshabalala, Uganda’s Usher Komugisha, GH One TV’s Nana Aba Anamoah, as well as seasoned Ghanaian lawyer and Sports Journalist, Eva Okyere.

The Africa Women’s Sports Summit aims at highlighting conversations about empowering young female sports Journalists and upcoming talents to lead and impact their communities, as well as taking stock of the gains made so far by African women in sports, and offer a clear path to fill the gaps.

The 2019 #AWSportsSummit is supported by Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel, Kenya Airways, Expert Travel, Dr. Bates Solutions and Stimuluz.
