Musician and label executive, Richie Mensah has announced his candidacy for the position of Vice President of the Musicians’ Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
Via a short clip distributed across social media, Mensah noted that an intimate look into music commerce in Ghana and the deficiencies thereof necessitated his decision to run:
“After years of individual success, I realised that the industry itself needed certain things put in place–which is why, three years ago, I took a position as Director of Music Standards at MUSIGA,” a mandate which he notes has helped him institute a number of projects including Music Plus, Music This Week (MUSIGA’s official weekly news briefing), the Future Project (an incubation platform for budding Ghanaian voices), an official Ghana Music Chart among others.
Nominations for various posts close April 17, and elections will hold on June 26.
Active for over a decade, Richie Mensah is author of multiple hit songs, and is currently CEO of Lynx Entertainment, which is home to shining young acts KiDi, Kuami Eugene, and MzVee.
