Singer Toni Manieson, widely cited among a handful of performers who have kept Accra’s Jazz scene alive for over 2 decades, has passed, according to reports.

News of her passing comes hours after a concert was held in her honour at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. She has been reportedly unwell for some time.

An American from Los Angeles, Manieson has been a fixture in Ghanaian Jazz since 1998, performing at nearly every top hotel in Ghana; Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra City Hotel, Best Western Premier Hotel Accra-Airport etc. A dynamic pianist & Musical Director, she was the founder of  the “Jazz Tone” showcase, which ran for several years.

In 2014, Manieson delivered a TEDxLabone talk on the subject of gratitude.

Tributes have since come in from friends, colleagues, and fans alike, among them being fellow Jazz chanteuse, Bibi Brew, who recalled Manieson’s ” warm friendly smile, beautiful kindred spirit, humanity and contributions to the creative arts and jazz music in Ghana.”
