For “Number One,” a lively highlife joint off his “Matters of the Heart” album, singer Akwaboah turns to KP Selorm for a sunny Afrocentric video.
The four-minute clip sees Akwaboah lead a band of musicians and pretty dark-skinned vixens through a performance of the horn-heavy jam, which follows singles like”Hye Me Bo,”and “Mafutusem.”
“Number One,” is an archetypal Ghanaian love song; dripping with exaggerated promises targeted at a love interest, and also oozes rich percussion patterns.
Consisting 12 songs,”Matters of the Heart” (May 2018), his first under Sarkodie’s SarkCess Music imprint, features collaborations from the rapper Strongman, Nigeria’s Seyi Shay, Efya, and TxT.
Acclaimed for for penning some of the most influential contemporary love songs from these parts, such as Becca’s ‘Daa ke Daa’, SP Kofi Sarpong’s ‘Ayeyi Ndwom’ , and much of Sarkodie’s 2015 live album ‘Mary‘, the singer’s work is widely anticipated to be groundbreaking.
Son of Highlife great Kwadwo Akwaboah (formerly of the Marriots International Band), is 2010 VGMA Songwriter of the Year, and has been nominated for a dozen other award schemes.
