Ghanaian highlife/reggae/ Afrobeat doyen, Kojo Antwi has teamed up with dancehall star, Stonebwoy, for a new song.
Kojo’s first submission in a significant while, “Akyekyede3 Nante3,” an emotive reggae number, relates the sentiments of the deep loneliness that replaces in one’s heart, the absence of a loved one.
Antwi opens up the joint dreading the moments before his lover zooms off in her car, and then the longingness that follows, such as sudden jerks invoked by cars honking, hoping that it’s his lover. He also laments troubling daydreams, and in the chorus, how fast time runs when he’s next to his significant other, its “torotise-pace” when she’s around. “Prisoner of time,” he describes his state as a result existing sans a lover.
Stonebwoy picks up the subject, recounting with copious nostalgia, beautiful moments shared with his lover, wailing, “since you’re gone ooh, I cannot breathe [sic], can’t find nobody to hold.” In subsequent verses, Stonebwoy also stresses: “you are my love.”
It is not clear if the single predicates a new album.
Author of timeless tunes including Densu, Tom And Jerry, Dadie Anomaa, and Adiepena, Kojo Antwi bears a remarkable 22 albums to his credit, as well as many laurels including West Africa Tourism Award, All Africa Music Awards, Kora Award, and the Our Music Award under his belt, Kojo Antwi (born Julius Kojo Antwi) is a trusted authority in Ghanaian music.
