Singer Wendy Addo, trading by the showbiz name Wendy Shay has released an album barely six months after she first hit Ghana’s mainstream.
The 10-track project titled “Shay On You” features previously released hits including “Uber Driver,” “Astalavista,” “The Boy Is Mine,” “Psalm 35,” “Bedroom Commando,” and “Masakra.” As has become the norm with projects from Rufftown Records, the outfit that houses her, the album sees label boss Ricky “Bullet” Agyeman heavily involved in writing for the body of work.
Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, Ray James, Sarkodie, and Eno Barony constitute guest artists on the album. M.O.G, UBeayz, Lexiz, Danny Beatz, Foxbeat, and Robo Da Beat Signtxt contribute production work on the album.
“Shay On You,” which saw a well-patronized corporate launch at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra yesterday December 20, will be outdoored to the masses at the singer’s Shay Concert slated for the La Pleasure Beach Sunday, December 23. That concert, expected to draw in droves, will also be graced by high-profile colleagues as KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Bisa KDei, Ras Kuuku, Criss Waddle, Medikal, Sista Afia, Nana Boroo, and King Promise.
On December 24, Shay is also billed to perform at Citi FM’s annual 24th December indoor concert, D2R.
Speaking at the corporate launch, Shay disclosed that the album was not restricted to highlife and Afrobeats (which have become her signature), but also caters to other genres too. She may not have been in the industry for long, but she has quickly established herself as a top-tier artist in these parts, making her a solid contender for a number of laurels at he 2019 VGMAs.
