Over the weekend at the Accra Ridge Church, one of the city’s favourite love stories was sealed in an elegantly intimate ceremony that left witnesses with endless smiles of goodwill and admiration —the highly-anticipated nuptial between burgeoning journalist and author, Etsey Atisu, and friend of nearly 10 years, Eva Ewurabena Quansah-Wood.
For many of the guests who gathered at the Rt. Rev. Col. J. K. Otoo (Rtd) —officiated event, it came as an unsurprising chapter in an iconic romance as, barely nine months ago, he published Epistles to My Bubune, his maiden book, in her honour.
The couple, shimmering in gold, white, and simper, declared their commitment to this lifelong journey in the presence of family, friends, representatives from Ghana’s journalism fraternity, and distinguished guests as H.E Lt Gen J. H. Smith (Rtd), former Ambassador and Minister of State; Abla Dzifa Gomashie, former Deputy Minister of State; Brig Gen Martin Ahiaglo, former Director-General, National Lotteries; Dr. Gloria Quansah-Asare, Deputy Director General, Ghana Health Service; CPP bigwig, Lawyer Bright Akwetey, among other esteemed personalities.
“Our friendship has always been beautiful but our wedding, with the love and support from our families and everybody else, was a true fairytale,” says the ever-beaming Atisu about the ceremony which has since become key fodder on social media, where the couple are also influencers.
Etsey and Ewurabena dated for 3½ years — an experience the couple describe as a fruitful adventure which more than renews their faith in God as “author and finisher of our faith”.
“I don’t see myself marrying anybody else except you but it is not a “do or die” affair. Everything I am doing now is geared towards that life with you and it is not to satisfy some public stunt or charade but because I feel it is right for me,” writes Etsey to Ewurabena in Epistles.
“I’ve always wanted that because you make me happy” reads another extract. “You can be a little difficult nut to crack but you still make me happy. And even when it seems impossible to please you, you still make me happy because you understand that we are in this relationship with only one goal – till the end”.
