Media General, managers of Accra-based TV3 and official media partner of the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, has issued a statement explaining a break in transmission in their live coverage of the event last Saturday.
The interruption, which happened while former employee, Nana Aba Asamoah was onstage to present an award, was widely speculated to be deliberate foul play targeted at the ace broadcaster, but the company has rubbished any such theories.
Signed by Richard Ahigble (Group Head, Corporate Affairs), the statement fingered a break in the official feed from event producers, Charterhouse Ghana, as the cause of the interruption, and expressed regret for the indelibrate technical challenges “inherent in producing an event such as the VGMAs”.
Compered by broadcaster Berla Mundi, and actor Jon Dumelo, the 2018 VGMAs saw late songstress, Ebony Reigns record a historic feat as the first female act to win the coveted Artist of the Year prize, as well as the first Ghanaian act to win in posthumously.
