Nigerian Afropop singer Davido beat beat Wizkid, Babes Wodumo, C4 Pedro, Nyashinki and Nasty C to pick up the 2017 MTV EMA award for “Best African Act 2017”.

Ecstatic, the “Fia” man was full of gratitude for the laurel, which he dedicated to his late mum. A celebratory clip online sees him and his friends party to trending songs from Ghana: R2Bees’ “Over”, as well as Patapaa’s ubiquitous “One Corner” joint.

The awards ceremony was held at the SSE Arena in Wembley (London) last Sunday, with Rita Ora as host.
