Highlife icon Paapa Yankson (born Benjamin Akono Kofi Yankson) was laid to rest over the weekend.

A state burial held for him at the forecourt of the State House  was attended by President Nana Akuffo Addo, Tourism minister Hon. Catherine Afeku, MUSIGA president Bice Osei Kuffour, ace broadcaster Kofi Sintim Misah, and a host of other veteran musicians.

 Co-founder of the famous Western Diamonds Band, and such songs as Yaaba, Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, and Tena Menkyen; his lovely duet with Paulina Oduro, have endeared multitudes to him through all these years.

He has turned in some 15 albums in all, and is recipient of several honours, including this year’s Vodafone Lifetime Achievement Honour.

Paapa Yankson died at his Dansoman residence Friday, July 21.
