Rebecca Asamoah crowned first runner-up @ Miss United Nations



TWENTY-FIVE-year-old Ghanaian beauty queen, Rebecca Asamoah, was crowned first runner-up at the 2017 edition of Miss United Nations international pageant held in Kingston Jamaica over the weekend.

She beat several other contestants from different countries to come close to winning the ultimate crown which went to Olga Makhlevskaia from Russia.

Mexican queen, Irais Carbajal, also took the second runner-up position at the Saturday night event.

It’s Rebecca’s third win in three years after she was earlier crowned Miss Ghana 2015 runner up and winner of Miss Africa Continent in South Africa.

She is the first Ghanaian queen to represent her country on the Miss United Nations stage.

Over 80 contestants from around the world took part in the Saturday pageant in Jamaica.

But Russia was adjudged winner at the end while Ghana and Mexico took the first and second runners-up positions respectively.

Miss United Nations is a humanitarian pageant which helps to better the lives of persons around the world. It identifies and showcases world’s best tourism cause ambassadors; those who have the skills, talents and personalities best suited to promote their respective countries in furtherance of tourism, international goodwill and cultural harmony. Apart from a strong emphasis on goodwill tourism protection programmes and destinations promotion, the pageant also supports environmental protection via strategised programmes.

“I am compassionate not only for people with status and stature but for the underprivileged. I believe Miss United Nations pageant is to embark on humanitarian works to uplift women and to positively impart in the lives of people in our various societies and the world at large. I want to be a part of this family to contribute my quota in the world’s development,” the 25-year-old dental hygienist said about her decision to take part in the pageant ahead of the grand finale.

Rebecca remains one of Ghana’s successful queens.  She does not disappoint when she mounts the stage.  She is expected to return home on July 15.

11th Anniversary Of NATIONAL SPELLING BEE Launched!



Mrs. Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice President of Ghana has declared the eleventh edition of the The Spelling Bee Ghana officially launched at a ceremony in Accra. The launch, which took place at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Hall on Tuesday begun the process for the 11th edition of the National Final of The Spelling Bee to take place in February 2018.

The ceremony drew an array of formidable speakers including Dr. Jim Dobson of the USAID, Dr. Charles Owu-Ewie, Dean at University of Education Winneba, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korley and Ms Abla Dzifa Gomashie, former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts. The chosen theme for the 11th edition of The Spelling Bee is “The Relevance of the Mother Tongue in Literacy.”

Besides commending the organisers, Young Educators Foundation, for ensuring that many young Ghanaian school children would be trained to not only read and spell correctly, but also obtain confidence in the process, most speakers at the event encouraged the use of the mother tongue in teaching young people.

Mrs. Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Country Director of Young Educators Foundation, organisers of The Spelling Bee, who also spoke at the ceremony, underscored the importance of the programme in the lives of many young Ghanaians over the last 10 years and called on corporate Ghana to support such schemes to ensure they would be sustained.

“Over the last decade we have devoted our time and effort to building a platform that would encourage young people to read and we can say for a fact that we have managed to attain this objective over the 10 years that The Spelling Bee has been here,” she said.

She paid special tribute to the sponsors who had stayed faithful her company organization and their dream of making child literacy a priority. Her commendation also went to the individuals and organizations that showed support by donating to The Spelling Bee this year.

She noted that some companies such as DStv, Rufus Green Parks, Us Embassy, Voltic/Muscatella, South African Airways and Blue Knights Bookshop have by their unwavering support to The Spelling Bee kept it going and thus was very thankful to them. She expressed the greatest appreciation to the lead sponsor for many years, Indomie for their immense support to the Bee.

Mrs. Tachie-Menson commended all the schools which have participated in The Spelling Bee since its inception, the teachers who prepare the students as well as the students who spend their time learning hard to take part in The Spelling Bee.

Lily Tugbah of Solidarity International School, Ashiaman & The Spelling Bee 2017 winner spoke about her journey and the experiences that came her way, including taking part in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the USA.

There will be the regional competitions between the months of October and November 2016. The finals of the eleventh anniversary edition of The Spelling Bee will take place in February 2018 with the winner getting an all expenses paid trip to represent Ghana at The Scripps National Spelling Bee in the USA in May of 2018.

Ete Dakitse Launches “L’amour Vrai / True Love” Album



Alliance Française d’Accra, the French cultural center in Accra will come alive on Saturday 23rd September 2017 when exceptional crooner and gifted African musician, Ete Dakitse, launches his maiden album.

Titled “L’amour Vrai” (meaning True Love), the ten track album is to cement Ete Dakitse’s place as one of the fastest rising and promising African voices on the international music stage having recently performed at a series of private events in London and Scotland.

Some of the singles on the album which have started receiving heavy rotations on radio and television are ‘British Lady’, ‘Love by Nature’, ‘L’amour Vrai’, ‘Persévère’ and ‘Jamais Sans Toi’. All the songs on the album were recorded in South Africa by Sunset Recording Studios.

Speaking about the album, an elated Ete Dakitse said “I am very excited and very thankful to God for all the good things he has done for me and how far he has brought me. One of the popular songs on the album is ‘British Lady’ as you rightly said. It is a song dedicated to the British Monarch and every properly behaved lady. Another favourite song is ‘Persévère’ (Persevere), an inspirational song urging people never to give up in life despite the circumstance or situation they might find themselves in”.

Born Ete Komlan Dakitse – Benissan in the Togolese capital, Lome, he recently performed at the Glam Africa Ball held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra with His Excellency, President Nana Akuffo Addo and other high profiled personalities in attendance.

 Ete is widely known across the francophone African music space as Ete Dakitse. His unique and sweet soft singing voice is complimented by his ability to sing in two languages – French and English.

Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede join Kanda Bongo Man for 2017 VODAFONE AFRICAN LEGENDS NIGHT



Music legends Charles K. Fosu aka Daddy Lumba and Abrantie Amakye Dede have been announced as two major Ghanaian acts that will grace this year’s Vodafone African Legends Night.

According to Global Media Alliance, organizers of the event, the two superstars were lined-up together due to their immense contribution to the Ghanaian music industry hence the decision to create a platform to have close interactions with their fans.

Lumba and Amakye Dede will be joined by Congolese music legend Kanda Bongo Man who will be the headline artiste for Vodafone African Legends Night. The trio are expected to mount the stage to thrill audience to some of their hit songs.

The 6th edition of the music show will take place Saturday September 30th at the Banquet Hall State House in Accra.

Last year, the show witnessed great performances from Yvonne Chaka Chaka who collaborated with her ‘daughters’ Becca, Wiyaala and eShun on stage and was spiced up by the robotic Akosua Agyapong, the Kpanlogo man Amandzeba Nat Brew and the smooth taker Nana Tuffuor.

Over the years, African Legends Night has celebrated musical icons. Notable performers include South Africa’s legend and first headliner Hugh Masekela, Femi Kuti, Freddy Meiway, Gyedu Blay Ambulley, Amakye Dede, Ghanaian ace Saxophonist Steve Bedi, Ben Brako as well as a blend of artistes across Africa.

#SMWiAccra: MiPROMO Media delivers talk on how to make money off YouTube



MiPROMO Media on Friday took their turn on stage at the Social Media Week brainstorming event organised by Echo House.
Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas, innovations and insights into how social media and technology are changing business, society and culture around the world.
MiPROMO, a company which is predominantly online based made a presentation on how to make money off contents people love. The topic which was going to touch mostly on the entertainment sector was well attended by most young music artists and artist managers.
Making the presentation on behalf of MiPROMO was Nana Rofa Kissi who delved into how to make suitable content for your youtube channel. He emphasised on specific areas that should make one’s content stand out on the video-sharing website.
He then touched on the main reason everyone was there, how to make money off their contents they loved.
Nana Rofa Kissi listed points needed to monetize a channel.
What was to follow next was a very intense Q & A that made that session one of the most talked about sessions.

Ghana Music Awards UK – Full list of Winners!



Rapper Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, M.anifest, Ebony, and Willis Beatz were among top Ghanaian acts who emerged winners at the just-held Ghana Music Awards – UK event.

Held on September 16 at the Gaumont Palace (Dominion Center), the night saw Shatta Wale walk away with the topmost prize on the night – Artist of the Year.

Performances on the night came from the energetic Sherifa Guru, Zylofon Music’s Kumi Guitar and  Obibini, as well as Afropop stars Kwamz & Flava.

FOOTAGE: Antwerp turns up for Sarkodie’s “HIGHEST EUROPE TOUR”



Here’s footage from the Belgium leg of Sarkodie’s ongoing “Highest Europe Tour”.

In honour of his recently-released fifth studio album, the tour has already seen him in Germany as well as France. He is expected to perform in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Italy, and Spain.
