The death is reported of veteran Ghanaian actor Charles Kofi Buckner.
Most popularly known for his role in Kwaw Ansah’s Heritage Africa (1989), he also acted in Juliet Asante’s Silver Rain, African Timber (1989), Run Baby Run(2007), Elmina, and African Timber (2011).
Announcing the sad event on Tuesday May 23, Juliet Asante called him an “industry giant” with whom she has had “impactful conversations with over the years”.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Industry giant Mr. Charles Kofi Bucknor who played the patriarch in Silver Rain. He was a real asset to us and I personally have had very long impactful conversations with him over the years. Very passionate conversations too! We will miss him and we say thank you to him and his family for the time he spent with us. May his next journey be as impactful as his journey here on earth.
Born in Cape Coast in 1953, he is a former Director of Television at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and was CEO at Focal Point Ltd.
Mr Buckner is widely regarded as a distinguished performer not just for his roles in several local and international films, but also for his memorable cameo appearances in a number of music videos.
