Leading tech talent accelerator Sleekjob Academy, organised a landmark hackathon for students of Ghana Technology University College in Accra as part of the institution’s annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week Celebration.
The event which came off a few weeks ago, attracted several students of the Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Networking departments. The four- hour gruelling competition saw participants tackle real life problems in groups, employing their skills in problem solving and software development.
At the end of the competition, the team consisting Kofi Boahene Name and Crentsil Kwayie emerged winners. Their team developed a smart system which allows students and lecturers to efficiently book lecture halls and venues on campus.
Hackathons are events in which people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming to solve various problems. If regularly organised, hackathons can help provide local solutions to some of the problems the country faces.
Speaking to ENEWSGH, CEO of Sleekjob Academy expressed excitement at the quality of software solutions as well as the level of creativity displayed by the students on the day. “We were highly impressed with the problem-solving skills of the students and their overall technical ingenuity”, he submitted.
The president of the Engineering Students Association Peter Fletcher also registered his satisfaction with the hackathon: “I am glad the competition was organised on campus, and I look forward to more of such events”, he said.
