Netherlands Embassy honours Bisa KDei

Published

on

It is certainly an exciting time for Ghanaian music with most of its stakeholders getting recognized across the globe in recent times. After staging sold out and spectacular concerts in London, the United States of America and Canada recently, celebrated Ghanaian musician, Bisa Kdei, known in real life as Ronald Appiah is in the news again.

On Wednesday 19th April 2017, the multiple award winning musician was honoured by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Accra for his unique contribution to Ghanaian music as an exceptionally unique and contemporary high life singer, keeping the authentic Ghanaian music genre alive.

This took place at a special media and stakeholder cocktail event held at the residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Accra, His Excellency Ron Strikker, as part of activities marking the Orange Week Celebration by the embassy to mark its Kings Day.

On his part, an elated Bisa Kdei expressed his appreciation to the embassy and Ambassador Ron Strikker for the recognition. “It is such a great feeling at this moment and I thank God for this. I will say it is a privilege to be here with the ambassador, staff of the embassy and key stakeholders of the embassy as well as our friends from the media. I have over the years been convinced about the need to work hard at all times and being original in everything one does especially within the creative space and I think it will pay off at the end of the day. As an entertainer, I ask myself how will I better my lot to be able to affect society and the very people who patronize my music to get me to greater heights. There is a lot of work going on and I am looking forward to a partnership with the embassy and other strategic stakeholders within corporate Ghana to affect change within society. One again, I am humbled for this opportunity”, he said.

Presenting a plaque to Bisa Kdei, Ambassador Ron Strikker also thanked the musician for his invaluable contribution to the orange Week Celebrations. The media cocktail event was put together by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in partnership with Prompt Communications and the Arts Growth Foundation Ghana (AGFG), a registered non-governmental organization which seeks to stimulate discussions, initiate concepts for the general development of the Ghanaian Arts and Entertainment.

MUSIGA’s “Top 20 Songs of 2017” merely an opinion – Joe Mettle

Published

on

Gospel singer Joe Mettle, has described MUSIGA’s recently-released  “Top 20 Songs of 2017” as merely   an opinion.

Compiled by Qisimah Insights, the list, which does not include a single gospel song, comprises solely, the most-played Ghanaian songs on radio. It includes offerings from such acts as Ebony, Shatta Wale, Kuame Eugene, KiDi, Patapaa, Stonebwoy among others.

The reigning VGMA Artist of the Year, during a recent interview with Accra-based Happy FM, challenged the Union’s list, wondering “how the research was done”. Indicating that many radio programmes commence with Gospel songs, he flatly challenged the veracity of the list.

He also stated that even “without research, one can tell gospel songs are played constantly on air”.

“ Until we are shown the bases of the research, the top 20 most played songs is just their opinion and that cannot be challenged,” he further said.

Born Joseph Oscar Mettle, the minister is author of several widespread hymns/medleys, including “Owawani”, which won him VGMA Artist of the Year last year, as well as “Bo Noo Ni”, featuring protege Luigi Maclean. Active since 2011, he has been associated with Danny Nettey, Nii Okai, KODA, Joe Beecham, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Eugene Zuta, Yaw Sarpong among others.
