The 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is currently underway with Berla Mundi and actor/ designer Elikem Kumordzi hosting the red carpet session. The main even is scheduled to start in minutes.

EL, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, MzVee, Medikal are all in the running for the coveted award of Artist of the Year.

Broadcaster Anita Erskine hosts the show, with DJ Black behind the turntables. In a series we dubbed #VGMANostalgia we looked back at selected editions. We started off with the year 2000, which saw highlife veteran Charles K. Fosu (Daddy Lumba) emerge overall winner. It was also a great opportunity to revisit the various stages of the revered highlife genre. READ IT HERE.

We also looked at 2002, Lord Kenya’s year. Though now a pastor, he was once -the most influential rapper in the country. It is argued that no one has quite matched his influence till date. Read about him here:

It took us to veteran hiplife band VVIP (formerly VIP). Easily the most consistent group in Ghanaian hiplife, the have always found a way to make tracks which have served a contemporary audience.  Active since 1997, the group are authors of such timeless hits as Ahomka Womu, Obaa Sweety, Daben Na Odo Beba, Besin, Manenko, Sisi Yare3, Kuzo Muyi Wassa (Show Me Wossop).
