Maayaa Abigediwer Motsieloa Ayawere, a student of the British International School (Ghana) first learned how to swim at the age of four (4) when she was in SK Neptun in Stocktholm, Sweden.

The club has produced many World and Olympic Champions such as: Therese Alshammer and Jennie Johansson. She moved to Ghana at the age of 6 and continued to learn swimming with Felix Fitness Foundation in Accra, where she also trained as a Junior Life Saviour.

At the age of 11, Maayaa joined GH Dolphins so she could train and swim competitively.

 

International Experience

In May, 2016, she competed for GH Dolphins in Arnsberg, Germany. She won a bronze medal in 50m breaststroke.

At age 13, Maayaa represented Ghana for the first time in Cairo, Egypt. She competed in 100m breaststroke, 4×100 freestyle, 4×100 medley and 50m breaststroke. She came 6th in the 50m breaststroke finals. Maayaa will be traveling to the USA in August to represent Ghana in the World Junior Swimming Competition but her ultimate aim is to make the time to represent Ghana in the 2020 Olympic Games in Russia with Abeiku and Kow Jackson. Her coach, Mr. Jackson has so much faith in Maayaa, as he thinks she has the knack to be a world champion.

 

Interesting Facts

The first time Maayaa swam on her own without any floats was in Egypt, during a family vacation. Educational life Maayaa is a Year 8 student of British International School, Ghana. She is the best student in her class in terms of academics, very disciplined and has other interests. She has a single track to her credit. She wrote, composed and recorded a song (Is Everything alight?) to raise money to support street children.
