Miss Precious Kyei Bonsu, a 2012 finalist and current host of the Miss Ghana pageant, has launched a kids newspaper to tackle the alarming decline in the reading culture among children today.

A monthly publication, Treasure Kids News, she says, was necessitated by the alarming decline in the reading habits of kids today. The colorful 16- page paper targets children between the ages and 7 and 15, and features educative articles, puzzles, tips, as well as other fun activities which will enrich the minds of kids, but in a fun and interactive way.

A graceful launch, held at the Christ the King School auditorium in Accra on Wednesday November 30th, was graced by key personalities and corporate entities including Mr. Kwame Blay of Daily Guide, Nii Teiko Evans – Amfom (Chairman of the occasion), Mr Kweku Quansah (Tap2educate), Mr Samuel Xefu of TV3, and the Assistant Headmistress of Christ the King School, 1Promasidor Ghana (producers of Yumvita and Cowbell), MultiChoice Ghana, UniBank, Pens and Plastics (producers of Bic Pen), Indomie among others.

Compered by GTV presenter and MC extraordinaire Ato Turkson and budding MC Lordina, the event was fun and educative with numerous prizes and giveaways from sponsors for the over 150 students who attended.

The colorful 16- page paper targets children between the ages and 7 and 15, and features educative articles, puzzles, tips, as well as other fun activities which will enrich the minds of kids, but in a fun and interactive way, and has already earned the title as the best newspaper for young and curious minds. An accompanying website, treasurekidsnews.com, was also outdoored on the day.

“The decline in literacy among children should be a worry to all, the statistics are staggering”, submits Ms. Kyei- Bonsu to ENEWSGH, about the motive behind the periodical. “Still, with interesting and creatively tailored material, we can always generate an affection in them toward reading. It is exactly what we intend to execute with this newspaper. With exciting ideas which our team arrived at as a result of extensive research about the attitudes and peculiar patterns of absorbing knowledge, we are optimistic that the paper will be the change that we have so long desired, or at least set us on a decisive path, especially with such segments as Did You Know, Writer’s Corner, The Classroom, Comic Zone, Special news, and Amazing Kids”, she further explains.

Precious Kyei Bonsu is also hostess of Treasure Kids Radio, which airs Saturday mornings on XLive Africa, and head of PB Group, which handles Public Relations, corporate marketing, and business solutions. They have been associated with Plush Lounge, Joel Orleans, Bisa Kdei, Burna Boy, Focos Hospital, Tap2educate, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Tv3, Exclusive Events Ghana among others.
