Eclectic singer, songwriter and actress Jojo Abot will headline this year’s #SabolaiRadio Music Festival, organisers have announced.

Put together by art collective Accra Dot Alt, the event, which has been running for the past five years, has been described as “the largest African indie music showcase in West Africa”, providing a platform for brilliant acts across hip hop, AfroBeat, traditional fusion, soul, electronic and rock music.

This year, the concert ( a two- part series) is scheduled for the Efua Sutherland Park, starting with the Accra Cookout on December 22, and Sabolai Radio Live on December 23.

Born on August 4 1988, Jojo hails from Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana,  and creates music  across Afrosoul/Reggae and Afrobeat.

In April this year, she performed at Lauryn Hill’s Diaspora Calling! headlined by the Grammy winner at the King’s Theatre, Brooklyn. She also joined her for MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! Concert Series. 

In June 2015, Jojo Abot released her debut EP. Titled FYFYA WOTO, the 4-song project is a lamentation of love gone wrong. She sings in English and Ewe, she’s inspired by such music giants as Fela Kuti, Savage Rose, SEEED, and Israel Maweta.
