A former Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Ms Eva Lokko has died. She passed on today.

Madam Lokko passed away in the United States of America. The former Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Running Mate was receiving treatment at a facility she’s been on admission for some days.

A sad news, she was until her demise the parliamentary candidate of the PPP for the Klottey Korle constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Lokko was the first woman Satellite Communications Engineer to be employed at the GBC in 1972.

While at the GBC in the 70s and early 80s, she together with the engineering team installed and maintained Ghana’s first colour television infrastructure in 1985.

Lokko worked in over forty countries across the world, and was one time regional programme coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme’s initiative for internet development in Africa. She was with the UN for 13 years. She served as chairperson of the UN Federation of International Civil Servants Association and the United Nations Staff Council. She also served as member of the UNDP News Advisory Board.

Away from active private and public work, she founded Totally Youth, a non Governmental Organization.

She became Director General of the GBC in 2002.
