How’d you start modeling?
A friend of mine wanted to do a photo-shoot with me, which I’d never done before. I didn’t have a huge team of makeup artists, wardrobe stylists — none of that. I did my own makeup, brought my own clothes, and we shot in downtown Fredericksburg. Once I received the edits back, I proceeded to post them on all of my social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr). My photos went viral in a day and I was shocked! At that moment, I decided I wanted to take modeling seriously.
Who/ What are your biggest inspirations?
I’m my own inspiration. I inspire myself daily on what I can accomplish and what I’ve been through. Still managing to pull through with my head held high and make a stand for freelance models is enough inspiration.
Favorite modeling experience, so far & why?
Favorite modeling experience would have to be walking for VFILES Runway, last year. Reason being, I’ve never walked a runway in my life and that gave me a taste of what being apart of NYFW was all about — the rush, nervousness, and excitement. It was an unforgettable moment.
Tell us some of your modeling goals. Any particular brands you’d love to model for?
I have a few goals for myself as a model. My first and absolute goal right now is to get signed to an agency that can take me further in my career. My second goal is to grace the cover of Essence magazine. That has been a goal of a mine for years and I love what Essence stands for. They acknowledge women of color flourishing in their success — I want to be apart of that. Last but not least, my third goal is to be apart of the Balmain Army and get a chance to be featured in one of the campaigns. I love that Olivier Rousteing achieves diversity in all of his campaigns and shows. I would love to work with a mastermind like that.
What’s something you love to do in your spare time?
I love to sleep in my spare time. I value sleeping more as I get older, since I have such a hectic/ busy schedule.
We know you’ve gotta take care of your figure, but what’s your favorite “cheat meal”?
Haha, funny you said that. I have a cheat meal everyday! I really don’t have a diet or do anything crazy with working out. I was truly blessed with a great figure!
What are you listening to at the moment?
I am currently listening to Travis Scott’s new album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. If you haven’t listened to it, you’re missing out on LIFE.
Favorite TV show/ movie?
Favorite show right now is POWER. No need for an explanation, I’m sure everyone watches this show.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
Fun fact about myself is that I’m a true comedian. I realized I’m a very funny individual and don’t even notice it at times. People always tell me I’m way too funny and that’s why they love me.
What valuable lessons have you learned from the industry, thus far? Any advice for other aspiring models?
I’ve learned that you have to have tough skin to survive this industry and to remember everyone doesn’t have your best interest. Some advice I always give to other aspiring models is to never ever give up and be consistent with your work. Consistency/ persistence is the key to everything in this industry. Network, build your brand, and continue to push yourself, no matter what.
