The Storymoja organisation is a significant presence on the African literary scene. The annual festival has served as an important meeting point for artists from across the continent to share ideas, nurture their gifts, develop their craft and tap into the larger creative pool in order to further consolidate Africa’s place in the international creative scene.

The annual festival is traditionally held in Kenya however in honour of the late Prof. Kofi Awoonor, the chosen Storymoja keynote speaker in 2013, the festival will take place here in Ghana from the 21st to the 24th of September 2016. The Du Bois centre, with its connection to Pan-Africanist ideals and long history of support for African excellence, was the perfect choice for the festival venue.
The chosen theme, ‘Creating a Smarter Africa’ seeks to explore the various ways in which African creatives can channel their work towards the further development of the African people. This year’s memorial lectures will honour two African visionaries, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Prof. Kofi Awoonor, who truly dedicated themselves to the enriching of our continent. The masterclasses, panel discussions and exhibitions will seek to address various facets of the larger theme and provide participants with the tools to continue the important work started by these key figures and many others.
