Ghanaian author, poet, playwright and academic Ama Ata Aidoo is the subject of a documentary by Ghanaian-British journalist and filmmaker Yaba Badoe.

The film, The Art of Ama Ata Aidoo treats stories surrounding her growth and interest in storytelling. It is slated for Friday September 9 at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre – Town Hall Approach Road, London, N15 4RX, United Kingdom.

Born Christina Ama Aidoo in 1940, she’s alumnus of the Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast, as well as the University of Ghana. She has heldĀ  a fellowship in creative writing at Stanford University, and has also served as a research fellow at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana. She has lectured English at the University of Cape Coast, and eventually rose there to the position of Professor.

She’s also recipient to several top honours including 1992 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book (Africa) for her novel Changes.
