Earlier this month, radio host/ MC Giovani Caleb was announced as judge for Airtel Ghana’s online talent competition Airtel Awesome You.

In a latest short video endorsing the competition, he has revealed what led him to radio in the first place. Having failed  to pursue a childhood ambition to be a pilot, he talented host sought the next option to get him to be in “the air”. The drive-show host, in his quintessential humorous self, claims he  settled on radio because “being a wizard wasn’t an option”.

Giovani insists that fun is integral to what he does, and he has no problem deviating from “radio conventions” to connect with his audience and “have fun” eventually.

Giovani is widely regarded leader in the new age of on-air personalities, especially since taking over from veteran Bola Ray as drive-belt host. And while he admits that there’s’ a lot of budding talent in the industry, he’s confident that mentorship from the finest in the industry will ensure he’s’ fine.

Over the years, Giovani has built a reputation as a key voice in Ghanaian music, having taken on such duties as radio host, programmes manager both at Y FM and Live FM, MC of MTN Hitmaker, among other things. He therefore  brings a wealth of experience to the talent competition.

Prizes for Airtel Awesome You range from GHC 10,000 as first prize, GHC 3,500 for whoever places second, and GHC 1,500 for second runner up.The competition is open to subscribers of Airtel Flex.

Giovani is currently host of Starr FM’s Starr Drive which airs weekdays from 3 pm.
