Disturbing footage surfaced online of Bishop Daniel Obinim flogging two teenage members of his International Godsway Church Thursday morning, for allegedly engaging in acts of fornication.

Since the video came out, it has sparked public outrage, with celebrities Morris De Voice, Afia Schwarzenegger among others reacting to/condemning  the act.  It has also, for much of the day, topped trends on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The Ghana Police has expressed interest in the case and have disclosed hat they will look into the matter. Police PRO Superintendent Cephas Arthur made this known in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM earlier today;

“I haven’t spotted such a video but if there is such a video in circulation then it borders on human rights issues and the appropriate authorities will take action…we are in a democratic dispensation. If it’s for the purposes of religion, that one will also be investigated. It will also be by the appropriate authorities and I hope the right things will be done to ensure that human dignity is restored. When I say appropriate institutions, we have DOVVSU, anti-human trafficking unit and we have other units so let us see it first. For all you know, some station or division of the police has seen it already and perhaps they are working on it.”

Bishop Obinim has constantly made headlines for scandals thus, public altercations and shocking claims, as well as unorthodox healing methods such as stepping on the belly of pregnant women and exposing someone’s genitalia on live television.
