Ghanaian dancehall act, MzVee ( born Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda) turns a year older today June 23.

MzVee is currently in the US, attending the BET Awards, as she has been nominated for Best International Act: Africa in this year’s awards. This award comes as a surprise, she told media personnel when news of her nomination broke.

MzVee started out in girl-group D3 and has risen steadily since launching her solo career in 2014. She currently has two albums to her credit: Re-Vee-Lation (2014) and Verified (2015). Awards she has won include VGMA Unsung Artiste of the Year and Best Female Vocal Artist (BASS Awards), both in 2014. She also won Best Female Vocal Performance at this year’s VGMA awards.

Such singles as Natural Girl, My Everything and Bokor Bokor have seen MzVee cement her place as one of Ghana’s most sought after singers.

The 2016 BET Awards will be held on June 26, 2016, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
