Africa’s biggest sporting spectacle, the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) is coming to DStv. From the 16th of January until the 9th of February, all Compact, Compact Plus package subscribers will get special access to an Afcon-dedicated channel, SuperSport 5 (SS5). The channel will only be available on the bouquets for the duration of the Afcon tournament.

On the 15th of January 2015, MultiChoice Ghana and SuperSport launched the activation of the channel Supersport 5 on three bouquets (Compact, Compact Plus, Premium) to the media, as part of the #AfricaShowYourLove campaign for the competition.

The event was held at the Bedouin Lounge at the Lizzy Sports Complex. Present at the event were notable sports journalists and personalities to discuss the various groups and their chances in the tournament. Guiding the conversation around the championship with the compere Gary Al-Smith was Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, DStv General Manager  & GOtv Ghana Director, Felix Awogu General Manager, Strategy, Supersport in West Africa, Carl Tuffuor, ace sports journalist and analyst and Victor Ikpeba former Nigerian local and international footballer.

Mr. Awogu mentioned that in addition to all 32 matches been shown live in HD on the dedicated SS5 channel, SuperSport will also have 3 camera crew following the Ghanaian, South African & Zambian teams to bring behind the scenes information. Supersport will also produce and broadcast 2 magazine shows – Harambee & Master Plan. This will be supported by as usual high powered studio analysis with the likes of Marcel Desaily, Sammy Kuffour, Benni McCarthy, Gavin Hunt, Shaun Bartlet and a host of others.

The activation of the channel on the lower tier bouquets forms part of MultiChoice’s continued efforts to give subscribers access to our exciting range of entertainment content via our different technological platforms while putting a spotlight on the abundance of sports talent on the continent.

DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact Plus subscribers will also have access to view all 32 matches from the tournament in both HD and SD across three other SuperSport channels: SS7 which will act as the overflow channel for SS5 at the playoff stage where matches will kick off simultaneously, SuperSport Select and Maximo (where available).

To add to the Afcon excitement, Anne Sackey, the Marketing and Communications Manager for MultiChoice Ghana launched the DStv and SuperSport have #AfricaShowYourLove campaign, to encourage subscribers to show their support for their favorite teams by uploading pictures of themselves dressed up in football fan regali, onto the DStv Facebook page, to win great prizes.

SS5 channel 205 will go live on Compact and Compact Plus from 17 January at 12: 00OM GMT and will close on until 09 February at 8:00AM GMT.
