Tigo Ghana has joined the national campaign against the spread of the deadly breast cancer disease affecting thousands of women locally and millions globally.

The telecom giant, a major sponsor of the annual breast cancer awareness creation march, dubbed “walk for cure” 2014, was motivated by the devastating effect of the condition on women and it telling effect of productivity in general, contributing a whopping twenty thousand Ghana cedis as a major sponsor.

This year’s event, under the auspices of Breast care international Ghana and Peace and Love hospitals, is scheduled for the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani, this Saturday, October 25, 2014.

The fourth in the series, it is expected to draw a record crowd of over thirty thousand participants including civil society, religious groups, schools and market women.

President of breast care international and CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai commended Tigo among other sponsors, and encouraged more corporate and institutional support towards awareness creation insisting that early detection of the condition could save several lives that otherwise perish needlessly.

“We are so financially constrained in this campaign but I am of the conviction with the necessary financial push, we can make a difference,” she observed.

Breast cancer officials said the Tigo sponsorship will undoubtedly push up the awareness creation campaign and challenged other well-resourced and endowed institutions to support the NGO stem the ravaging effects of the disease on our womenfolk.
