Producer, Edward Osei Poku, popularly called Hammer, of the Accra-based Last Two Music Group has taken a swipe at lazy song writers, who he says are mostly ignorant, too.
In a direct reference to how musicians of today have left the art of rhyming solely for artistes in the rap and dancehall genres, he called into question just how serious the Ghanaian artiste takes his audience.
“When will songwriters realise rhyming is not exclusive to rap music and dancehall. I can confidently say majority of the Ghanaian song writers are ignorant to this and that’s unacceptable,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
“U shld no Not rhyming takes the poetry out of ur song. Apart from Denning Edem Agbeviadey EL, Obrafour and a few others every other singer just writes words and sing. Very wrong..
A growing trend which he believe has led to many being lazy, the celebrated Producers added: “Bob Marley doesn’t have a single song where he didnt rhyme so does rkelly and everyone else who’s relevant in the history of song writing and singing. respect ur audience and put in work. #Lazysongwriters.”
Hammer is responsible for the breakthroughs of most of Ghana’s young musicians. His Last Two Music label for years, became a go-to-Shrine for undercards wanting a mainstream access.
