The desire to have a platform to address critical social issues, is what motivated Ghanaian- Malagasy Spoken Word artist, Crystal Tettey to take to the art.
The journey started in 2004, when she participated at a local event in Ghana dubbed “The Poetry Slam Jam’. She hasn’t looked back since.
In July 2013, she released her debut album ‘Faith, MadaGhana’, to decent recognition.
She’s also performed in Malawi, and South Africa and will be performing in Zimbabwe and Denmark later this year.
Tettey believes her spoken word pieces are different from other artists because “I speak a lot on peacebuilding issues as I have a direct working experience with Civil Society Organizations, specifically those working in Women and peace building.”
Aside doing spoken word, she works closely with development based organizations such as the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) and the Foundation for Contemporary Art- Ghana (FCA- Ghana)/
Crystal speaks Ga, Twi, Russian, English and French.
