Mr. Geoffrey Buta, Northern Regional Photographer of New Times Corporation has been selected one of 10 finalists for the Thomson Reuters Foundation-Nokia Photo Creative Invite.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation-Nokia Photo Creative Invite is an initiative which aims at capturing the essence of women’s empowerment throughout the world using photography.

Mr Buta was selected out of over 400 entries received from all over the continent showcasing some amazing photographs of women’s empowerment as better way of celebrating International Women’s Day.

Each finalist will be given latest Nokia Lumia 1020 with high resolution phone to shoot a set of pictures illustrating women’s empowerment in their various countries.

Mr Buta has won several awards including emerging on two consecutive times as the winner of the National Road Safety Commission Media Award in 2012 and 2013, best photojournalist of the year 2012 by the Ghana Journalist Association, Reach for Change “People’s Choice Award” for his project, “Foto4Change” an initiative organized by Tigo, and also a finalist of the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, sponsored Deutsche Welle (DW) as part of German Development Media Awards to celebrate the best in photojournalism.
