Sensational R&B singer, Mabiina has urged the stakeholders of the Ghanaian music industry to support and push the female artistes the same way they do for their male counterparts
She noted that the level of support that industry players, including state agencies give to the male artistes far outweigh the support given to the female artistes, although the ladies battle bigger obstacles in order to make it in this industry.
Speaking to Elvis Crystal on the Drive with the Area Gang on 89.9 FM last Tuesday, June 25, 2019, the No Games singer said, “Female artistes in Ghana are good and hardworking but people don’t really see the potential and how hard we work. They rather always focus on the men. Is about time we put the females on the map.”
Mabiina also spoke on Ghanaians’ reception towards R&B music and the artistes in that genre, saying that although it’s been good so far, it could get much better.
She said although she has faced pressure in the past to do afro-pop songs in order to break through the music market, she’s determined to take Ghana and even Africa to the next level through her music irrespective of the genre including R&B.
The True Love singer cited some difficult contracts she signed earlier in her career saying those partners did not understand the type of artiste she is, and tried to change her.
She however assured that she is currently very happy with her new label, Black Speech Media Group run by her own brother.
Mabiina is returning to active music after nearly a year’s break following the death of her mother. She shared that sad incident affected her in such a deep way, it almost derailed her music career, but with the help of her family and loved ones, she’s now back and ready to take the Ghanaian music scene by storm.
Her latest song, I Rise is a beautiful catchy afro-beat tune that is bound to get you dancing, and is available on most digital music platforms including Aftown.
It is off her upcoming 11-track debut album, Breast Order set to be released by September this year.
