These twelve Ghanaian artists will perform in front of Spanish Music Festival directors next Friday 15th and Saturday 16th, after being selected among 65 artists
These are the twelve Ghanaian bands that will perform and be represented in the Spain-Ghana Vis a Vis, Professional meetings between Spanish music producers and musicians from Ghana next March Friday 15th and Saturday 16th in Accra. The Vis a Vis is a cultural project organized by Spain’s public diplomacy institution Casa África, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the collaboration of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Spanish Embassy in Accra and the Ghanaian Embassy in Madrid.
During this week, Spanish Music Festival directors have made their decision after voting their 12 favourite bands among the 65 that registered into the open call for this cultural project. The Spanish promoters highlighted the “incredible quality” of the bands presented and expect that the experience in Accra will allow them to know deeply how the music industry is going on in Ghana. All the directors have listened to all the 65 bands registered into Ghana Vis a Vis website and took their decision according to what they think would better fit into their festival line-ups.
Della Hayes and her Women of Colour, Elom, Fokn Bois, FRA, Gyatabuom and the Lions, Kakatsitsi, King Ayisoba, Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife, Lamisi, Soulstreet band, Weku Kronkron Band and Yibor Afric Band have been the musicians selected.
The ‘Ghana Vis a Vis’ is the 10th edition of this cultural cooperation project that aims to generate a better knowledge of African music in Spain and has already been held in other 9 African countries. So far, Vis a Vis has visited Senegal (in two occasions), Ethiopia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania and Angola.
In each country, Spanish cultural promoters had the opportunity not only to listen to the live performances of twelve selected artists but also to maintain professional meetings with them. With this cultural cooperation project, Casa África aims to contribute not only to a greater presence of African artists in the Spanish scenarios but also to the development of the cultural industries of African countries.
