December! Whilst events happen throughout the year, it is the December shows that we truly look forward to. From concerts headlined by Stonebwoy, Efya, M.anifest, Kuami Eugene, Worlasi, Kofi Kinaata, and Sarkodie, to Starr FM and Citi FM’s flagship S Concert and D2R respectively, the yuletide overflows with party dates.
December commenced with singer Sista Afia’s Queen Solomon Xplode Concert, in honour of her 15-track debut album, a play by seasoned playwright, James Ebo Whyte, S Concert 2018, the Starr FM gig featuring Stonebwoy, Kwesi Arthur, Edem, Darkovibes, Wendy Shay, KiDi, Fancy Gadam, Maccasio, Kelvyn Boy, Yaa Pono, Victor AD, Praye among others.
Ebo Whyte’s “Sex Scandal” happened over two days at the National Theatre (December 1 and 2). The MTN Music Festival, a Farmers’ Day special concert, features a toothsome mix of the old and he new: Nana Tuffour, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Adina, Amarh Pino among others. It comes off this Friday, December 7, as does the highly-anticipated S Concert, a staple last quarter event for several years. The S Concert will see a tall list of Hiplife and Afropop practitioners in action at the Fantasy Dome in Accra.
Singer Worlasi, praised for his peerless talent and revolutionary journey, headlines an Alliance Francais concert on December 7 too, on which he welcomes colleagues AI, Akan among others.
DECEMBER 8 – 15
This round of concerts consist gigs by Wiyaala (Alliance Francais, December 8), Sabolai Radio (Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, December 12 – 15), Kuami Eugene’s Rockstar Concert, scheduled for the Kumas Sports Stadium Car Park on December 15 to crown his biggest year yet, and King Promise Live, the second edition of the singer known as Gregory Bortey Newman’s annual concert.
DECEMBER 21 -25:
IamTIC, the veteran rapper who formerly traded by the stage name “Tic Tac” takes over the Bukom Boxing Arena for a mammoth concert, December 21. Girl Talk Concert, strictly for females, Connect concert, headlined by rapper MEDiKAL, and a free concert by R2Bess ahead of the release of their “Site 15” album also ensue on that date.
The following day, Fante rapper, Kofi Kinaata returns to his home city of Takoradi, for his annual “Made in Taadi” show. “God MC” M.anifest stages his biggest M.anifestivities yet at the Bukom Square on December 23.
December 24 and 25 cater to longstanding shows by Accra-based Citi FM and ace rapper Sarkodie respectively. Both slated for the Accra International Conference Centre, they are expected to be overbooked as usual, with patrons jamming to the bona fide bangers in the year under review.
Charterhouse Productions presents a Night of 1025 Laughs, the only comedy date on the calender (December 26) and also announces the grand return of the Ghana Rocks Concert (which sees Fuse ODG, Burna Boy, and Jidenna all in performance on December 28). Dancehall act, Stonebwoy attempts to fill up the 20, 000 capacity Fantasy Dome on the same day as Ghana Rocks.
Mr. Eazi, shortly after releasing Lagos to London, the second in his Life is Eazi LP series, hosts the Detty Rave at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, December 29. Finally, Afrochella, BBNZ’s answer to Coachella, comes off at the El- Wak Sports Stadium, December 29, with Ms. Lauryn Hill as rumored special guest.
