On September 14, at the Accra City Mall , the album art and tracklist for “The Reign”, one of 2018’s most anticipated CDs was unveiled by Shatta Wale, the famed singer who’s also author of the work.

The unveiling —like all things Shatta Wale — was made to massive furore and rave reception alike. The cover art portrays the controversial musician (born Charles Nii Armah Mensah) with his head bowed down in a gesture of deep thought, or solemn prayer— his skin assuming a coal black hue, gold jewellery glistening from his neck.

The album, consisting a single feature (Nigeria’s Olamide), will be released via a  grand concert on October 13 at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair Center, Accra. It follows the Cloud 9  EP (October 2017), and  After the Storm Album (May 2016).

Songs on the 17-track project include “Don’t Baby my Baby”, “Rosalinda”, “Amount”, and the widespread “Gringo.” Producer MOG, Showerz Ebiem, Damage Music, and Shatta Wale himself (who produces under the alias “Da Maker”) programmed beats for the project.

When it is finally published, it will be  the Kakai man’s first body of work under Nana Appiah Mensah’s ZYLOFON Music. Other singles off the album include Gringo, and Amount .

Also captain of his SM4LYF imprint, which houses protégés Captan, Addi Self, and Joint 77, Shatta Wale is recipient of multiple VGMAs, a  Chicago Music Awards (CMA) laurel, an International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA) honour, a Key to the City of Worcester etc.
