Mortal remains Ghanaian acting doyen, Mac Jordan Amartey, will be interred on September 8, according to an official announcement by his family.
The late performer, who expired July 5 while on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, will be sent off with a wake-keeping ceremony on September 7, and will be laid in state on the morning of September 8 at the forecourt of the State House. A burial service has been scheduled for 10 am, before he’s finally sent off at the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in East Legon on the same day.
Star of several popular films including Black Star 2 (2006), The Returnee (1995), Victim of Love 2 (1998), the “Idikoko” series, as well as TV Theatre productions, Amartey is especially known for his endless quarrels with on-screen wife, Grace Nortey, with whom he starred in many movies.
Until his death, the veteran actor battled a number of health situations including having to have his right leg amputated in 2012—something which he revealed contributed significantly towards his absence from the movie scenes.
He was 82, and was survived by 5 sons.
