Rapper Kwesi Arthur continues to assert his place as “Ghetto Youth King” via his new offering “My Guy (Toast Up)”.
The song celebrates day-one comrades of the “Grind Day” man, and accompanying visuals courtesy Adey J Produxions, Lloyd Foster, and ShotsbyJesse constitute a raw, yet charming documentary-style account of his recent trip to the US for the BET Awards, which he attended as a nominee.
Not uncharacteristic of the themes that dominate the rapper’s music, “My Guy” is punctuated with a barrage of anecdotes regarding his difficult start in Comm. 9. It follows the uplifting “Woara“, which he published weeks ago.
Hailing from Tema (which is also home to modern greats as Sarkodie and R2Bees), Arthur is author of “Live From Nkrumah Krom”—the 5-track debut EP that garnered him his cult following and a taste of the mainstream. He’s also 2018 winner of the VGMA Hiphop Song of the Year category.
