St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School (PERSCO) has beaten West Africa Secondary School and Adisadel College in a closely contested 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz competition.
A thrilling competition held at the National Theatre Thursday July 5, spanning five rounds, saw Accra-based West Africa Secondary School —underdogs who swiftly became favourites after dispatching defending champions, Prempeh College in the semi-final round —lose to St. Peter’s College by a single point. St. Peter’s —represented by Kissi Annoh Kwaku, and Fenny Benjamin accrued 45 points, with West Africa SHS and Adisadel College bagging 44 points and 39 points respectively.
This is the third time St. Peter’s is lifting the prestigious trophy, after being crowned winners in 2000 and in 2005.
Past winners of the contest include the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), who have lifted the trophy five times. Prempeh College has won it four times, while Opoku Ware School, a seven-time finalist, has annexed the crown twice. The Achimota school has also won the crown once.
Founded the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) in in 1957, St. Peter’s is located in Nkwatia Kwahu, and boasts of notable alumni as Ken Attafuah (criminologist and head of the National Identification Authority), and Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu- Majority leader of Ghana’s parliament).
