Dancehall singer, Stonebwoy, returned to the Delay Show after three years, to discuss a variety of issues pertaining to his life, and career (especially since signing to Nana Appiah Mensah’s ZYLOFON Music).
The past few months have witnessed widely- publicized tensions between the singer and employees at the label, including colleagues Shatta Wale and Kumi Guitar, as well as execs Willi Roi and Bulldog. While he admitted that there are issues which required ironing out, Stonebwoy stressed that it has nothing to do with fellow Dancehall act, Shatta Wale, whom many say caused displeasure with Stonebwoy when he joined the label, as it looked like a move to “replace” him as frontman for the genre at the outfit. Stonebwoy rubbished the assertion, indicating that ZYLOFON had the right to engage with whomever they deemed fit.
“Shatta Wale is not the reason for what is going on. I remember when the Champs incident happened I said Zylofon Media is like a service provider and they can work with any artiste. After all, I am not the only artiste on the label. They are working Becca and other artistes,” he submitted, also pointing out that as a new company, challenges are expected.
Stonebwoy also recounted a harrowing accident which happened when he was 14, and which left him unable to bend his knee for several years, saying that it is a miracle that occupants of the vehicle, including his father and other family members made it out alive.
On how he met his wife, Louisa, Stonebwoy agreed to Delay’s observation that he married a fan, as she loves his music. He revealed that he met her during a performance at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where Louisa was a student. After interacting with her, he declared to his manager, Sidi Mohammed, that he would walk her down the aisle.
