Asa Baako – One Dance, which recently won the Ghana Tourism Authority award for the Western Region’s Best Tourism Programme returned to Busua Beach for its 8th edition on 2 – 6 March 2018; bringing people together from all around Ghana and the world to experience and enjoy an annual Ghana Independence holiday retreat like no other.
This year was filled with five days of waking up to one of Ghana’s most beautiful beaches; listening and getting down to the latest dance club hits from across Ghana and the world presented across six Sound systems; Afroshrine Open Mic stage, Coconut Dream, Africa Unite Soundsystem, Musique Electronique, Scorpion Lodge and the legendary Asa Baako Jungle Party, programmed by Akwaaba Music featuring; DJ Bbrave, T.Roy (Broadcite Music), OKORO, DJ Vim Tinz, DJ Soulprovyder (4 To The Floor), Emily Dust, DJ EXPressionS, XOA, Rvdical, Tash LC, Cervo, Busy Twist, Afriquoi (DJ), DJ Gwada Mike, DJ Mitchy, DJ Eff, DJ K3v and DJ Pizaro.
Festival goers enjoyed the local tourism offer of surfing, treks, walking tours and boat rides alongside a programme of live art and graffiti demonstrations; dance classes and showcases from Dancetera who put the Dance into One Dance; Hoola-Hoop lessons and demonstrations from Zbu Hoopism and “Agrobaako – One Play” beach games and activities in association with Decathlon Ghana featuring football, volleyball and archery tournaments and the ‘Balloon Game’ – this year’s festival favourite.
Asa Baako is a party with a purpose, supporting local musicians and culture in the region. This year featured open mic sessions on the Beach stage and at Coconut Dream to showcase the regions rising music talents, traditional dance and drumming performances from MusicXChange; a children’s parade calling for an end to Child Labour and the Asa Baako Changemaker programme featuring empowerment workshops as part of Social Enterprise Month.
