Yesterday June 16 saw acclaimed dancehall singer Stonebwoy walk his sweetheart Dr. Louisa Kwakye-Ansong down the aisle.
The all-white event, punctuated by showers of blessing, came of at Unique Floral (Trade Fair Centre – Accra), and was attended by popular faces across various spectrums of society: Seyi Emmanuel Adebayor, Trigmatic, Becca, Kofi Kinaata, Stephen Appiah, Elikem “The Tailor” Kumordzie, broadcaster Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, PY Addo Boateng, and a host of others.
Now Dr. Louisa Satekla, the bride of the “Mightelele” artist swept six of the nine awards at the Dental School of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) last year.
The union, once it was made public, attracted copious reactions, especially on social media. While some praised the pairing, others saw it as a chance to bash colleague Shatta Wale’s wife in a now longstanding rivalry between the fans of both artists.
The unfortunate incident pricked the concerns of many, including from legendary producer Da’ Hammer, who cautioned against that action, emphasising the old saying “behind every successful man is a woman”. Below is his unedited post on Facebook:
“How many of u have ur best friend for a wife.. how many of u have a tigress by ur side to protect u from this wicked world… how many of u are genuinely in love with ur spouse…most importantly how many of u are happy? As the saying goes… “behind every successful man is a good woman” So as long as Mitchy is, and was the secret behind closed doors while Starbwoy disrupted this music industry and soared with unprecedented success, a cult following and an admirable work ethic,… evidently I can say he couldn’t have made a better choice. Now go back to ur miserable lives behind ur phones and Computers and shut ur foul mouths!”
Since entering the music industry several years ago as protege of Samini, Stonebwoy has remained a role model for youth in his native Ashaiman, and indeed all across the country and beyond. This bold gesture by the 28-year old, further cements his place as one to look up to.
Winner of several awards including VGMA Artist of the Year and BET Best International Act: Africa (both in 2015), Stonebwoy is author of two albums: Grade 1 (2012) and Necessary Evil (2014). He is also responsible for a long list of hits over the years: Climax, Rat Race, Pull Up, Baafira, Run Go, Mightylele, People Dey, Enku Lenu, Go Higher, etc.
Stonebwoy is one of 8 acts in the running for the prize of Best International Act: Africa. The country’s sole representative this year, it is his second time at the awards after being nominated (and winning) in 2015. He goes up against Nigeria’s Mr. Eazi, Davido, Wizkid, and Tekno, as well as AKA, Nasty C, and Babes Wodumo (South Africa).
He also, days ago, signed a management deal with entertainment outfit ZYLOFON Media, joining highlife singers Becca and Kumi Guitar. He is also CEO of Burton Music Group, has been associated with top Ghanaian and international acts as Sarkodie, Kranium, Sizzla Kalonji, Morgan Heritage, Trey Songz and a host of others. His third studio album EOM is dedicated to his late mother, and is scheduled for release later this year.
