It was a night of unmitigated excitement when the nominees jam for the first Rush Energy Ghana Dance Awards was staged – as dancers unleashed their innate talent, brewed with fine elements of the art.
The event which was staged at the Accra Mall Food Court on Friday, June 9 saw electrifying performances from some of Ghana’s top-notch dance crews.
Among the artistes who entertained the packed audience at the venue were the Dymond Divas, Humble Stars, AM Dancers, Breaking Boyz, Flow Benders, The Gentlemen, One Ghana, Aces, Team Alpha, 4 Bent, Black Code, De Eiish, Hidden Dance Crew and many more. Agnes Bend became the cynosure of the night when she put on display her sensual body-bending dance routine. Dance and music are inextricably linked together and as a result, the nominees jam was also graced with musical performances from Kobi Rana, Richie Rhymes, and Whistle.
Hosted by ace Ghanaian TV host and a lover of dance Kwesi Dope of Spider Lee Entertainment (SET TV), DJ Asante controlled the turntables and dished out some ideal songs to get both dancers and audience up on their dancing feet throughout the night.
A random dance battle which was held during the show, saw Alvin win a brand new Lenovo A1000 smartphone from Motorola Ghana, as well as products and souvenirs from Rush Energy and West Coast Beverages’ brand Drum Major Whiskey.
It was graced by the Chairman of the National Commission on Culture Hon. Socrates Sarfo, Lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, UoG-Legon Mr. Terry Bright Ofosu, Executives of the Ghana Dancers Association (GHADA) including the president Madam Petra Peterson, and other prominent personalities in the country’s art and entertainment industry.
Speaking at the event, the president of GHADA Madam Petra Peterson, reiterated the importance of celebrating the art of dance in Ghana.
The Rush Energy Ghana Dance Awards 2017 main event will be held on Sunday, July 9 at the National Theatre in Accra where, amidst performances, outstanding dancers/dance crews will be awarded for their immense contribution to dance in the country.
