Contrary to earlier reports this week, rapper EL is not atthis year’s BET Awards. A prior engagement sees him in the Kenyan capital, recording for the Coke Studio Africa show.

The show, which brings top artists fom various parts of the continent together to create medleys of some of Africa’s favorite anthems, also encounters the Koko star this season.

The Coke Studio Africa has been graced by some of the biggest African stars yet, including Nigeria’s MI Abaga and 2Baba (2Face Idibia), Kenya’s Avril, and Mozambique’s Neymar.

In a short video, EL thanked EIB boss Bola Ray (who had committed to sponsor the trip), apologized for his absence and promised to make Ghana proud.

The BET Awards comes off Sunday June 26, with dancehall singer MzVee being nominated for Best International Act: Africa category.
